West Roxbury fire

Why wasn't an infrared camera used in the West Roxbury fire that killed two Boston firefighters? It could have detected the extent of the fire, which the firefighters apparently believed was limited to the kitchen of the restaurant.

IR camera is used in searching for fire in the walls and ceiling, or for finding victims when visibility is obscured by smoke. Fire was showing so they would assume it was already in the walls and/or ceiling. Using the camera would only have told them what they already knew, that the ceiling was hot. Not every company carries one (they're expensive), and it's not normally deployed unless it's needed (they're cumbersome).
